UFC 90 Predictions Anderson Silva vs Patrick Cote

Anderson Silva vs Patrick Cote
Anderson Silva is arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the business. Some people think Fedor is, however, for my money it is Anderson Silva.
The UFC is running out of options to throw at Silva and with Cote on a hot streak he was the logical choice.
Since Cote started training with famed trainer Mark DellaGrotte, his overall fight game has improved tremendously. However, will it be enough to contend with the power, speed, and laser like precision of Silva? I don’t think so.
Silva is quicker than Cote and has probably the best footwork of anyone (right behind Silva, might be GSP). In my opinion I think Cote probably has slightly more power in his punches than Silva, but Silva is just light years ahead in terms of his technical ability both on his feet and the ground.
We haven’t seen much ground work from Cote in his new form, but Silva is excellent on the ground and remember Silva is a black belt under the Nogueria brothers.
In fact, I think James Irvin matched up against Patrick Cote would be a great fight.
I like Silva in the lock of the night.
Thiago Alves vs Josh Koshcheck
I was taking Alves against Diego Sanchez all day, however, that fight has changed. Diego got hurt, and Josh Koshcheck is stepped in with a month’s notice. This is a much different fight now. Koshcheck’s take downs are way too much for many a fighter and Alves has been victim too takedowns from lesser shooters. Alves now has several years under his belt inside the octagon and has improved slowly over that time. His hands and footwork have improved dramatically. Instead of playing the punching bag role, he now does the controlling on the feet. Alves also has dangerous leg kicks, but don’t except many of those to be let go with Koshcheck’s ability to catch them. I see this ending 3 ways.
a. Koshcheck getting a TKO like he did against Lytle.
b. Alves winning a decision on striking points.
c. Koshcheck winning on lay and pray takedown points.
With that said, I’d like to see Alves win via KO on his feet. Maybe an upper cut when Koshcheck shoots in?
Overall this fight is a big avoid in my book for betting, but I like to make picks, so I’m going with the longshot with Alves winning via KO.
Sean Sherk vs Tyson Griffin
Obviously an amazing fight. Tyson Griffin has never been in a boring fight and Sean Sherk is like a stick of C4 on feet. Tyson is truly one of the best overall fighters in his weight class, but if Sean Sherk comes to fight and if age is NOT catching up with him, I think Sherk will win this fight. I’ll be surprised if Sherk is at his best and Griffin still bests him. I like Sherk to win.
Thales Leites vs Drew McFedries
Leites and McFedries like to strike, but Leites will have the definitive edge on the ground. Considering Leites was able to stand up to a beating from Nate Marquardt, I think Leites has a good shot of standing up to the abuse McFedries will dish out and coming out victorious.
Fabricio Werdum vs Junior Dos Santos
I know nothing of Dos Santos, but I have no problem picking Werdum in the dark here.
Rich Clementi vs Gray Maynard
Another exciting fight here, this card is full of great matchups. I actually like Rich Clementi in this one. Obviously, Maynard will have the wrestling advantage and maybe the strength advantage, but Clementi should have the advantage in speed. I like Clementi via sub.
Spencer Fisher vs Shannon Gugerty
I know nothing of Shannon other than he’s won many of fights via submission. I would place this on the avoid list.
Hermes Franca vs Marcus Aurelio
A jiu-jitsu spectacle will take place in this fight. Hermes has the KO power on his feet plus he is probably a bit stronger, while Marcus is much more technical and precise.
If it goes to the ground, I like this fight going Aurelio’s way, but I think Franca will try to keep it standing up. If it stays standing, I can see Franca take a decision or a TKO, but somehow they will end up on the ground and when it does, Aurelio will have that advantage. This fight could easily turn into a boring fight for the people watching from bars around the world, however for the hardcord fans it will be excellence guaranteed.
For picks sake, I’ll take Aurelio.
Josh Burkman vs Pete Sell
I haven’t been impressed with any fights of Burkman’s outside his stint in the Ultimate Fighter. That said, Pete Sell has two epic fights on his record. The first where he guillotined Baroni in his prime and the second when he lost to Scott Smith after what was looking like a TKO via body shot in the making. Scott Smith landed a final last shot on Sell’s chin as he rushed in. Burkman’s advantage in this fight is his wrestling and its an area where Sell has a large hole. Sell should be ok off his back as Jiu-Jitsu and boxing are his strongest points. Sell’s striking is considerably better from what I’ve seen. I like Sell to win.
Dan Miller vs Matt Horwich
These two IFL additions have both had tremendous success in their previous organization and now in the UFC they fight each other. Dan Miller is a Renzo Gracie trained fighter, while Matt Horwich trains with Team Quest. Horwich is that zombie fighter that keeps on coming and I think that will play into Dan Miller catching Horwich in a submission. I like Dan Miller to win a tough 3 round fight.

I would add that the lock of the night should be for Werdum to win.
