Cardio, Experience, GnP, Wrestling, Top position control (Randy loves the side mount), Strength

Strengths for Brandon Vera

Speed, Reach and Length, Footwork, Ability to use both legs and hands for KO’s where Randy has neither in the standup

I’m watching the countdown video and Randy is talking about going back to his roots of wrestling. He has to do this if he has a chance of winning. We have seen Vera get tired in the ring, lazy on his back, and roughed against the cage. Some might say it was the weight one time, and lack of interest another time. If he has any of those issues this time, Randy Couture will exploit it. One thing I don’t expect to see is Brandon slapping on a guillotine choke like he did to Assuerio Silva. If Rodrigo Nogueira couldn’t tap Randy with that choke, Vera won’t either. So expect Vera to avoid going to the ground with Randy at all costs.

Also in the countdown video. you can see Vera is preparing for this fight like no other. If Brandon fires and circles, and just boxes I think he can win this fight, maybe eventually getting a KO or TKO. Its not like Brandon doesn’t know wrestling. He is a very good wrestler. However, Randy wrestles the best of the heavy and light heavy weights that have ever occupied that weight class. Obviously Vera has a solid chance KO’ing Randy, considering how many times Randy has either been KO’d or almost KO’d in his last several fights, I think the odds are favorable.

Randy Couture is a slight favorite in the fight according to Bodog. I’m not sure I think that is fair odds. This fight should be even at best, maybe even favoring Brandon Vera.

Out of all the Couture fights where I picked him to win, I think this fight he has the best chance of winning. Based on his age and speed, Vera gets my bet.
