Kimbo Slice vs Ken Shamrock Predictions

Posted on 26. Sep, 2008 by moneybags.

1

This card takes place Staurday October 4th 2008 @ 6pm est.

Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson vs Ken Shamrock

Well this fight headlines with a future MMA star (certainly a top 5 most popular fighter) in Kimbo and one of the first MMA stars in Ken Shamrock. The only way, I mean the only way Kimbo loses this fight is due to a foot/toe lock, ankle lock, or kneebar. I don’t see Kimbo losing to any of these. Shamrock wasn’t able to get inside Rich Franklin, Tito Ortiz, and I don’t think he’s going to come close to Kimbo. Ken has a seriously problem in reach in this fight as well.

I like Kimbo to win.

Andrei Arlovski vs Roy “Big Country” Nelson

Which Andrei Arlovski will show up this fight? If its the classic Arlovski that came and put an absolute beating on Ben Rothwell, than Andrei should beat Nelson. Nelson I think poses more of a problem than Rothwell did, but Arlovski should be able to beat Nelson with his speed. Nelson probably has more power if he can catch Arlovski, but Arlovski has quite a few solid KO’s over top KO artists such as Tim Sylvia, Paul Buentello, and laid waste in his recent Affliction fight to ex-IFL champion Ben Rothwell, who beat Roy Nelson in the IFL.

I like Arlovski as the winner.

Jake Shields vs Paul Daley

Paul presents a big problem to Shields, but he is going to have to avoid getting taken down, scattered, smothered, and covered by the Jiu Jitsu black belt. Shields is deadly on the ground and I think when the fight gets there, Daley will be in more than trouble. I don’t see Daley catching Shields and KO’ing him.

I like Shields in the lock of the night.

Gina Carrano vs Kelly Kobald

I’m not familiar with Kobald, but I have no problem taking Gina in the dark on this one. EliteXC right now can’t afford to have her lose.

Murilo “Ninja” Rua vs Benji Radach

A tough one to pick. Probably an avoid.

Shields One Arm Guillotine From On Top

Posted on 26. Jul, 2008 by moneybags.

0

Shields wins by a very impressive top side one armed guillotine choke over an opponent who is really an excellent fighter. Thompson tapped out inside the 1 minute mark. I don’t know if that can be stressed enough how good of a fighter Thompson is. Sheilds just made that fight look way too easy. Shields just has the incredible wrestling/takedowns and then an overwhelming ground game that makes it difficult for opponents to throw him off.

Very impressive victory to take the EliteXC belt.

As Predicted, Cyborg Santos Too Much For Baszler

Posted on 26. Jul, 2008 by moneybags.

Cyborg came in as an underdog because of her time off of fighting and oddsmakers probably not familiar with her. Where Baszler had significant experience in the Bodog Fight promotion. Cyborg owned Baszler tonight and essentially double TKO’d her tonight.

EliteXC Lawler vs Smith II

Posted on 23. Jul, 2008 by moneybags.

Robbie Lawler vs Scott Smith

This rematch should be good. Lawler was winning the fight when it was called early, but Scott Smith was gaining back ground in fast fashion. This one should be good as well and I’ll go with my pick last time. Scott Smith.

Nick Diaz vs Thomas Denny

Confidently picking Nick Diaz here.

Jake Shields vs Nick Thompson

Might be fight of the night if Scott Smith does what he says and boxes a little more and uses more head movement. They both have a ton of experience against excellent competition. The difference is that Jake has beaten most of them, while Nick has lost to them one way or the other. Don’t get me wrong though Thompson could win this fight if Shields is not careful. I’m going to go with the favorite Jake Shields. He is fighting near his hometown and I think this one is likely to go his way.

Shayna Bazler vs Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos

Cristiane is a very intense fighter that I think Shayna will struggle with. Although Shayna has a lot of promise and talent I think shes just running into the wrong fighter right here. I like Santos here.

Antonio Silva vs Justin Eihlers

Silva in lock of the night.

Rafael Cavalcante vs Travis Galbraith

Galbraith has more experience against top competition such as Jonathan Goulet, Joe Doerkson, Kazuhiro Nakamura, and George St. Pierre. Even though Galbraith has lost to each of those names, I think the experience alone might be enough to carry him through a victory in this fight. However, Fejiao is likely too much trouble to deal with. I’m going with Rafael.

The other fights on the card are not bet worthy as the fighters are relatively unknown and inexperienced.

EliteXC Return of the King

Posted on 12. Jun, 2008 by moneybags.

This EliteXC show will be on Showtime Saturday June 14th at 10pm ET/PT.

KJ Noons vs Yves Edwards

This fight is quite difficult to pick. Yves is such an experienced fighter and has recently improved his focus to become successful in EliteXC. KJ Noons on the other hand has proven to be a pretty good striker with smart fighting skills.

MBP says:

I’m going with the underdog in Yves Edwards. This match is probably going to the judges.

Nick Diaz vs Muhsin Corbbrey

I don’t know much on Corbbrey other than what I’ve seen on the fight finder.

MBP says:

Nick won’t underestimate this tough opponent and I’m expecting he continues winning off the back of his recent victory in DREAM. He wants to rematch Noons badly.

Murilio ‘Ninja’ Rua vs Tony Bonello

MBP says:

Rua makes a comeback.

EliteXC Primetime Picks Go 4-1

Posted on 01. Jun, 2008 by moneybags.

0

All the locked fights won. This might have been the easiest MMA bout to predict — ever and it might never be easier than this was. Kimbo did almost lose this fight, but in the end he pulled it out.

Kimbo won, Brett Rogers won, Joey Villasenor won, Gina Carano won, and Scott Smith lost due to an eye poke. That could’ve gone our way too.

EliteXC Primetime

Posted on 27. May, 2008 by moneybags.

EliteXC Primetime will be broadcasted on CBS live May 31st has the internet fight king, Kimbo Slice as the featured fight of the night in the heavyweight division.

Kimbo Slice vs James Thompson

Its kind of funny that Elite XC put Kimbo Slice against James Thompson, a guy, who has been rumored to have a glass jaw, undercard fighter Brett Rogers just KO’d him in the last EliteXC and now they put him in the cage against Kimbo Slice, who ONLY KO’s people. Interesting. Our pick is Kimbo Slice via TKO or KO. Click for odds on this fight

Scott Smith vs Robbie Lawler

This one is a tough fight to call and could be fight of the night. Smith has gained serious confidence in his last few fights and has lives up to his nickname, “Hands of Steel,” by knocking out more than 90% of his opponents. If he touches you, he might put you to sleep. Smith really has impressive KO power.

Robbie Lawler, also a knockout artist, in the early part of his career has raised his overall level of MMA game – drastically. Lawler always had natural ability, but now is total fight game and planning appears to be notches above his younger year fights. If you followed his career you can see his footwork has improved dramatically and allows him to setup his punches a lot better.

Don’t expect a submission in this one. This fight could be a repeat of Pete Sell / Scott Smith fight all over again.

Advantages:

Lawler: Wrestling, Overall much improved game, KO power

Smith: KO Power, Good leg kicks, cardio, chin

Disadvantages:

Lawler: Submission defense

Smith: Submission defense

I would avoid dropping units on this fight. For my own personal picks though, I’ll go with the underdog Scott Smith. Click for odds on this fight

Gina “Conviction” Carano vs Kaitlin Young

EliteXC isn’t going to put Gina “the face of mma” Carano in the national spotlight and help her lose. We like Carano in a lock. Click for odds on this fight.

Joey Villasenor vs Phil Baroni

The odds makers have this one nearly even. This one is going to be a good match up, but Villasenor I’d avoid dropping units on it. For pick purposes I like the hungrier Villasenor via GNP or UD. Click for odds on this fight.

Jon Murphy vs Brett Rogers

This is the setup fight for the next Kimbo fight on CBS. If Rogers wins he will likely face Kimbo. I like Rogers here even though I know nothing about Jon Murphy. Rogers hasn’t exactly faced the greatest competition, but who he has faced he’s KO’d. Rogers lost to Houston Alexander via KO on a small promotion. It looks like Murphy is going to have to submit Rogers to win, but Rogers was hard to take down and he manhandled James Thompson. We like Rogers via KO or TKO. Click for odds on this fight.
